By partnering with Einride, Maersk was able to electrify a significant portion of its freight operations without needing to forge separate deals with a multitude of partners.

Instead, Einride takes care of all the physical and digital infrastructure components, enabling the electric freight deployment to take off swiftly.

It took just 6 months for Einride and Maersk to turn a patch of land in Illinois turned into the largest electric freight depot in the US.

Scale

Einride is deploying the 300 electric vehicles in stages from 2023 to 2025. As a result, Maersk will electrify 1 million shipments over the initial 5-year contract.

Electrification on this scale is enabled by Einride’s digital freight mobility platform, Einride Saga. The partnership encompasses intermodal transport, with electric trucks ferrying goods from railways to various hubs.

The first batch of trucks is now operational in the Chicago area.

Reliability

Einride currently operates the largest fleet of electric trucks in North America.

By leveraging this expertise and combining it with the centralized data and unique algorithms of Saga, Einride is able to move goods for Maersk with a delivery precision of 99%.

This expertise and digitalization means Einride is able to deploy and coordinate the electric fleet intelligently.

That means that not only is the entire fleet free of direct tailpipe emissions, it is also operated in a way that unlocks a range of efficiencies – such as maximized asset utilization – in order to drive a lower total cost of operations (TCO).
