Electrification is one of the greatest technological shifts of our time, and the transport and mobility sector is one of the industries that will fundamentally change as a result of it.

But how do we accelerate the development of the new and electric transport system? And how do we deal with the challenges of electrifying at the rate required to fulfill commitments under the Paris Agreement?

These are just some of the questions that will be explored when CAKE, Einride, Heart Aerospace and X Shore host the Electric Garden at Blockgränd 6 in Visby during this year's Almedalen Week. The space will unite leading voices behind the shift to electric transportation with panels, chats and more.

Electric Garden opens on June 27, Tuesday, at 15:30, with panel discussions highlighting how we can increase the speed of the green transition on roads, water and in the air.

The Electric Garden program ends on June 30, Friday, at 16:00, with an electric championship between Sweden's young political leaders.

Why universities and scale-ups need to team up

Not too long ago, the innovation landscape was more or less a predictable playing field. If a certain amount of funding was allocated to a domain, a certain amount of innovation would take place. Today, however, technology is evolving at an even faster pace as seen in the great frontiers of electrification, digitalization and automation.

New and fast-growing companies within these technology domains are quickly becoming large employers, influential innovators and world-renowned brands. What can these companies do to help universities prosper in this new age of technology? What can universities do to help these companies build the future even faster? Join us in a discussion on how scale-ups and universities can join forces to accelerate us into the future.

Fossil-free beyond the pipe: Decarbonizing the supply chain as we go electric

Moving towards a fossil-free society will require a lot from all parts of products' life cycles. Today, many climate-related targets and discussions are focused on the use phase, for example, the exhaust emissions from transportation, but at least a large climate footprint comes from the actual manufacturing of vehicles, and vehicles that are being replaced.

What is required for us to reach fossil-free production? What are the obstacles and opportunities, and what can help us accelerate the transition?

Building an integrated energy system as we scale charging infrastructure

Building an integrated energy system is crucial for a sustainable future and to enable societal change through large-scale electrification. In Sweden, the electricity demand is projected to increase by 100% until 2035. With the growing prevalence of electric vehicles, transportation's share of electricity demand will rise from around 3.6% to approximately 7% in 2030. Scaling up charging infrastructure and accelerating the adoption of clean energy sources are necessary steps. However, this transition requires an upgraded electrical grid. Upgrading and extending the grid is vital to handle increased renewable energy production and electric vehicle charging demands. An integrated energy system with charging infrastructure brings benefits like reduced emissions, improved air quality, job creation, and technological innovation. Governments must prioritize the development of a fossil-free energy system and grid upgrades to support a sustainable future and attract industrialization. Collaboration among governments, businesses, and individuals is essential to achieve these goals. Welcome to a conversation on how to navigate these challenges to achieve a truly integrated energy system going forward.
