REWE

Germany’s second-largest food retailer, REWE is going electric with Einride. A fleet of intelligently operated Einride electric trucks is shipping supplies to over 300 supermarkets in Berlin and Brandenburg. The partnership means that 8% of the retailer’s eastern region transports are now without tailpipe emissions. And this is just the initial deployment.

Making urban logistics
a nighttime affair in Berlin

By partnering with Einride, REWE benefits from a seamless and cost-efficient switch to electric with deliveries happening during the night. Einride provides all the infrastructure and operational resources, including electric vehicles, drivers, charging infrastructure, and digital intelligence.

It’s all part of a one-stop “turnkey” solution that enables the shipper to go electric faster – at scale – without the burden of costly infrastructure investments.

Benefits

No direct emissions

By shipping with Einride, businesses can cut their freight emissions by up to 95%. REWE’s initial partnership with Einride will curb 189 tonnes of CO2e per year.

Silent deliveries

Switching heavy-duty vehicles from diesel to electric can reduce noise levels by almost 75% – thus enabling REWE to help mitigate noise pollution in Berlin.

Tailored for your business

Einride helped REWE identify which routes were ready for intelligent electrification. REWE can scale its electric operations over time – with a strong business case.

Same same, but electric

REWE is going electric without any adverse impacts on efficiency and reliability. Einride’s unique data and algorithms support a delivery precision rate of 99.7%

Tolls and tax benefits
Battery electric vehicles are exempt from Germany’s toll system for trucks known as Lkw Maut tolls. “When we consider the projected fuel costs versus energy costs, along with the substantial tax benefits for electric trucks, the case is further reinforced,” said Sven Wallish.

Companies making the switch

PepsiCo

PepsiCo has teamed up with Einride to electrify its routes between Walkers manufacturing sites in Coventry and Leicester UK – eliminating greenhouse gasses from over 750,000 miles of road.

Lidl

A partnership that started in 2017 has evolved to reach 50% of Lidl’s stores in Stockholm with fully-electric trucks. Together, Einride and Lidl have saved 460 tonnes of CO₂e, and bumped  delivery precision up to 99.4%.

Heineken

Einride and Heineken partnered up to ship beer from Heineken’s brewery in The Netherlands to its distribution center in Germany. The key to taking Heineken electric was in finding the right charging solution.
